SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

WHAT IS SHOCKWAVE THERAPY?

Shockwave therapy is a safe, non-invasive, quick and effective solution for longstanding musculoskeletal pain and discomfort. Shockwave therapy is often integrated with chiropractic care, physiotherapy, orthopaedic and sports medicine to speed up healing.

A hand-piece is used to deliver mechanical pressure pulses (shockwaves – short, intense energy waves that travels faster than sound waves) to affected tissues or tendons with the aim to cause micro trauma to the problematic area, increase blood flow, stimulate an acute inflammatory response and in turn, speeding up the natural healing process.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN SHOCKWAVE THERAPY TREAT?

Shockwave therapy is often associated with treatment of chronic muscular and tendon disorders. Most patients report a significant improvement in their conditions after only a few sessions. Common conditions it can help with include:

  • back pain
  • neck pain
  • knee pain
  • heel pain
  • shoulder pain
  • sprain and strains
  • acute injuries and chronic pain
  • bursitis
  • osteoarthritis
  • tendonitis
  • sports injuries

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Shockwave is often integrated with chiropractic care or physiotherapy to improve results. While this therapy is suitable for a large range of conditions with little to no side effects, shockwave would not be an option if you are:

  • pregnant
  • are taking any oral anti-coagulants
  • have a heart disease or wearing a pacemaker
  • have blood clotting disorders
  • have tumours, infection or skin abrasion at the treatment site
  • have had a steroid injection within 6 weeks

An initial consultation and physical assessment will be necessary before deciding if Shockwave Therapy can help with your condition.
